Fluid image8/1/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The two 8” bass drivers are coupled internally, creating a structural element which braces the big side panels. If I were keeping them I’d definitely invert the logo and keep them upside down rather than invest in different stands. The Waveguide itself is symmetrical horizontally but not vertically and I found that on my desktop stands they sounded better used upside down which brought the tweeter to the correct height relative to my ear. The tweeter is set back 3 or so inches from the front baffle at the end of a deep waveguide which as well as loading the tweeter also time aligns it with the voice coil of the midrange driver. The AMT tweeter and the aluminium midrange driver occupy a separate sealed enclosure in the cabinet with the influence of the two bass drivers being isolated from the others by a separating baffle a few inches behind the front baffle. ![]() The physical arrangement of these drivers is worth mentioning. As previously mentioned, the crossover points are 115Hz and 2.8KHz, the crossover is realised in DSP and the filters for the mid to high are Linkwitz-Riley 24db/oct and Butterworth 12db/per oct on both slopes between the low and mid bands. This gives a maximum SPL of 116dB with quoted frequency response of 28Hz-20KHz +/- 4.8dB. Amplification is courtesy of class D units with 75W for the tweeter, 150W for the midrange and two separate 225W amps driving each bass driver independently. ![]() The drivers are an interesting combination of a 5” aluminium midrange cone covering 115Hz-2.8KHz, an AMT folded ribbon handling everything above 2.8K and dual, side-mounted, long excursion bass drivers handling the low stuff. It’s good to see that mounting options have been properly catered for with the inclusion of substantial threaded inserts on both sides for Sound Anchor floor stands and for ceiling-mounting. The Image 2s are deep with a relatively small front baffle (H 14.25″ x W 9.5″ x D 13.75″ / H 351 x W 241 x D 363 mm) and aren’t as heavy as I’d expected them to be (27.8 lb / 12.6 kg) but the woodwork is reassuringly solid and I was pleased to discover that these monitors are sealed cabinets, something I like about my KH310s. Construction And Driversīefore we get to the sound, let’s consider the construction. If they sound good then they definitely deserve a place on a list of prospective new monitors. My regular monitors, Neumann KH310s, are a sealed cabinet 3 way design but the Image 2s are 75% of the price of my Neumanns and offer onboard speaker calibration. To offer these features in a 3 way design at this price point is worth paying attention to. The Genelec and Neumann monitors offer DSP and the Focal offers a 2 in 1 Focus mode similar to the Image 2’s Cubemix mode. But how far up the price ladder does this ‘value goodwill’ extend?Īt nearly $2K per box the Image 2s have some very respectable competition from well known manufacturers, for example the Genelec 8340A, Neumann KH150 or Focal Solo6. Great value is something of a killer feature and products which are built to a price should always be viewed as such, with the inevitable compromises being correctly seen as a consequence of their good value. These monitors, particularly the FX80, offered a good sounding monitor which represented really impressive value at just $249 each. I’ve previously auditioned both the FX80 and FX50 from Fluid. The Fluid Audio Image 2 is a 3 way nearfield monitor with some interesting features including built in DSP which can host Sonarworks SoundID Reference calibration and a Cubemix mode which gives you two pairs of monitors in one.Īfter a few days with them, Julian found them to be solid performers with great control of the bottom end all the way to 40Hz, the onboard hosting of Sonarworks Sound ID Reference speaker calibration further improves an already good monitor and the Cubemix mode which restricts and shapes the frequency response to focus on the midrange was genuinely useful.Įxcellent performance, particularly at the bottom endĪt present the software is less polished than the hardware ![]()

Moon remix rpg adventure8/1/2023 ![]() ![]() However, outside of the novelty of preservation and ease of access, Moon has limited playablity in the modern gaming landscape. I am super happy a game like Moon has made its way onto the Switch eShop, translated officially for the first time for American gamers to enjoy. Although it might not be the best looking game, at least players can appreciate the quirky characters and strange Claymation-style animation. Cartoony sprites placed on top of pre-rendered backgrounds probably looked a lot better back in the day on a CRT but this Switch release features no increased resolution to enhanced visual features. Moon was originally an original Playstation game only released in Japan and the presentation shows. Mess this up and it is back to that previous save from a long time ago, causing tons of wasted time. The journey also requires some repetition as the player needs to use trial and error to figure out where certain characters are going to be and when. On the other hand, the game’s opening segment literally fills the screen with overlaid text but gives the player about three seconds to read it all – I read the first few words before it automatically jumped to the next text block. Slowly walking across each screen just takes way too much time and even the text bubbles take time to appear. This obtuse gameplay will further test patience in combination with the snail’s pace of the playable character. With gameplay this unconventional, not having an included instruction manual or hint system is baffling. This stamina system is never explained to the player making Moon an unplayable mess unless you read an online FAQs before you start playing. When I first started playing, I was just walking around talking to everyone I encountered, as one does in any RPG, before my character passed out for no reason, causing a game over and sending me back to my save file from 15 minutes prior. Herein is the biggest problem – the game never tells you what to do, how to do it, and why you need to do it. Completing quests by helping citizens of the world is how your character grows stronger but this mechanic is hidden behind a steep learning curve. Instead of grinding for XP, Moom: Remix RPG Adventure, dubbed an anti-RPG, is all about trying to spread love by restoring the souls the hero of the land has killed. Definitely a product of its time, there are moments of enjoyment if you have the tenacity to suffer through the slow pacing. Moon attempts to create an RPG experience but without using these RPG stereotypes that have been around forever. Super mario world falling blocks8/1/2023 ![]() ![]() U," a sequel to the DS original for Nintendo's ill-fated Wii U console, added co-op play as well. The also excellent "New Super Mario Bros. "New Super Mario Bros." added wall-jumping, for instance, which has since become standard in Mario's repertoire. Like the core design theme of "Super Mario," the series has gradually built upon itself over the years. It updated the graphics, offered a mess of new mechanics, and evolved the 2D side of the "Super Mario" series in ways it hadn't seen in years with a crazy multiplayer mode. When it arrived on the Nintendo DS in 2006, "New Super Mario Bros." was a breath of fresh air for the series. What the "Galaxy" series of "Super Mario" games did for 3D, the "New" series does for 2D. "Super Mario 3D World" is available for purchase on the Wii U, digitally on the eShop and in-store on disc. It may very well be the best game Nintendo made for the Wii U. "Super Mario 3D World" also borrows the overworld map concept from "Super Mario World" (the SNES game) and evolves it to its next logical conclusion: as an explorable world unto itself, full of secrets.Įach level in "Super Mario 3D World" feels like a gift waiting to be unwrapped, and playing it co-op with friends and family is a true delight. ![]() 2," players can choose to play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Toad - each has the same special ability that they had in the original NES game. "Super Mario 3D World," simply put, is the best Mario game that's been made in the last 5 years (before "Odyssey," that is). When holding a shell in his mouth, Yoshi has only 25 seconds before he is forced to swallow it. Yoshi has the ability to hold a Koopa Shell in his mouth, which can give him different abilities depending on the color of the shell. If you already have a Yoshi, you will get a 1-Up Mushroom instead. Typically an adult Yoshi will hatch out of these eggs, which Mario can then ride, however if the egg is found on its own (not in a block), a baby Yoshi will hatch out of it. Yoshi eggs can be found throughout Super Mario World. Power-ups can also be found on their own (not in blocks) in certain levels, and enemies and items Mario carries across the goal post may transform into power-ups. And they are only used as platforms and/or walls. The other two ! Blocks (the red and blue ones) contain nothing. Yellow ! Blocks contain a Super Mushroom, while green ones contain a Cape Feather. Roulette Blocks always contain a power-up, but the one you get depends on when you hit it, as they continuously cycle between a Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, Cape Feather, and Super Star. Power-ups can be found in some Rotating Blocks, ? Blocks, Hidden Blocks and Note Blocks. There are four power-ups in Super Mario World: Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Cape Feathers and Super Stars. Torguard port forwarding8/1/2023 ![]() The good news is that users can use a discount code (TGLifetime50) to reduce the cost of a yearly subscription with a dedicated IP. Once you have subscribed, it is necessary to get a Dedicated Streaming IPs plan. Dedicated IPs for Streamingįor anyone wanting to stream US Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer – and other streaming services – the basic VPN plans will not be enough. G/PGP Email Encryption, Tasks/Notes/Calendar, POP3/IMAP support, File Storage, Email filtering, Address book, and more. Paid plans to the anonymous email service come with 30GB encrypted storage with desktop sync apps for Windows, iOS, and Android. We find this to be a useful extra that is definitely worth taking advantage of. That bolted-on plan provides 10mb of offshore email storage and works on any device or operating system. The good news is that VPN users get a limited free version of the anonymous email service when they sign up for any of TorGuard's VPN plans. Anonymous Email Serviceįor those who want it, TorGuard also has an anonymous email service available in one of four different subscription plans. ![]() Subscribers can also use the proxy service to access any torrent client. The proxy service allows subscribers to use Socket Secure ( SOCKS5) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTP)/Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) proxy on up to eight devices. However, it is ideal for unblocking geo-restricted content and P2P file-sharing (for which it is optimized). This option will provide some privacy, but will not come close to offering the level of security that the VPN does. TorGuard provides a basic proxy service that is now included free with all VPN plans. For more information, see our best VPN for torrent sites. So if torrenting is important to you, TorGuard is perfect (the Tor in the name is there because of its focus on BitTorrenting, as opposed to any affiliation to the Tor Project). TorGuard permits P2P downloading right across its network. ![]() All in all, this is a lot of advanced features, which makes TorGuard a great option for just about any VPN user with advanced needs. Furthermore, there is an ad-blocker and malware blocker that can be toggled on and off in the software. Stealth connections for bypassing firewalls (like the Great Firewall of China) are also available on all of TorGuard’s VPN plans. This is great news and shows that this provider is still actively developing its platform and staying up-to-date with new developments. WireGuard is an interesting protocol that uses modern cryptographic primitives to provide secure and super-fast connections to TorGuard's VPN servers. OpenVPN encryption is available on all popular platforms, and the VPN has just released WireGuard connections on Windows, macOS, and Linux (and it will be coming to Android and iOS in the near future). ![]() It can be toggled on and off in the software. ![]() Similarly, Domain Name System (DNS) leak protection is available on Windows and macOS. This is a useful option for people who own a lot of devices, however, it is worth noting that it is a little on the pricey side considering that a growing number of VPNs are allowing unlimited simultaneous connections.Ī kill switch is available on the macOS and Windows platforms, but not the mobile versions of the client. However, users can purchase more for $1.00 per month (per additional connection to the VPN). TorGuard allows subscribers to use up to eight simultaneous connections. In addition, this means that no matter where users are located, TorGuard will have a server nearby (for achieving optimal connection speeds). This gives subscribers plenty of choices and allows them to unblock lots of content from around the world. TorGuard servers are located in 50+ countries. ![]()

Spirit of the north ps5 review7/31/2023 ![]() ![]() One of the game’s few narrative devices, it did a really good job of guiding me through each area and complementing each moment.Īside from the soundtrack, the story is borne from the environment itself. ![]() However, it also wasn’t scared of ramping things up when called upon or stirring up emotions when the story called for it. The soothing twinkle of piano complemented calmer moments, gently asking me to take in my surroundings and slow down the pace. A beautiful orchestral score follows the player throughout the game and never gets old. One area where Spirit of the North does shine, however, is its soundtrack. There are moments here - trampling through snow, sliding on sheets of ice, getting stuck in tar - that would have felt much better had the tech been implemented. After all, it’s early days yet and it’s easy to give Infuse Studio the benefit of the doubt and say they didn’t have time. Now, I’m not knocking the game too much for this. Similarly disappointing, although to a lesser degree, is a lack of implementation of the DualSense controller. There is some nice work done with light and shadows, particularly given that there’s plenty of spiritual glowing going on, but to put such a thing on a podium when the fundamentals are lacking seems trivial. It can look good in motion too but, whilst environments can often be sped through, stopping to explore only serves to highlight more of the game’s glaring issues. ![]() The game’s landscapes can appear beautiful at first, but on closer inspection they just don’t hold up. I wasn’t expecting Spirit of the North to be a graphical powerhouse by any means but, this being the ‘Enhanced Edition’ of the game, it did very little to take advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5. ![]()

Mouseless web navigation7/31/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The idea of visualizing a user’s journey through the web as a trail is by no means a new one. Optionally opening pages in a new trail.Allowing annotation of trails so users can record their thoughts while researching a topic.Persisting trails in a form as they were during the visit, so that they can be revisited (offline).Fading trails as they become irrelevant and eventually moving them off the grid.Sharing not just URLs but entire trails. This provides us with opportunities to explore further enhancements to the user experience. And yet each navigation trail is a tab that tells a complete story from start to finish. Users can continue using browsers as they always have. This is intentional: our goal is to enhance existing user experiences, not to replace them. If you ignore the paths leading up to each explored topic, trails are no different from conventional tabs. This is what Nala would have actually seen: Tabs and trails: the same, but different. Luckily, that can be removed by focusing on a single trail while folding the others. On the other hand, duplicates lead to a lot of distracting visual noise. The benefit is that a trail tells a self-contained story from left to right. So that’s what we display to the user (Version 3):Įach row represents a trail from the root of the navigation tree to a result. ![]() What we think matters most is not where each exploration diverged, but the complete path leading to a result. With Browser.html we are prototyping a user interface that tells not just the fragments of Nala’s history that a tabbed browser preserves (Version 1), but all of it (Version 2):īut these trees can easily get intricate. Of course, browsers typically provide tools like history views and “recent tabs” menus, but none of these presents a narrative that matches the actual course Nala followed. In this example of a common search scenario, more than a third of the history is lost! To look at the results of her initial search results again, Nala goes back a few steps in the history of the first tab and opens another pizza venue directly from there (10). Now when she selects a new restaurant (8), part of the current tab’s navigation history is lost as well:Ĭlicking an external link to the next restaurant’s website again opens a new tab (9), and again severs the connection from the history that preceded it. The browser’s amnesia compounds as she goes to look at more options: switching back to the first tab (6) and navigating back to the Yelp results (7), she looks for another restaurant. All history about how Nala got to the restaurant’s website is lost! The new tab doesn’t have any history, or any connection to the first tab. She follows a link to a list of restaurants on Yelp (3), and checks out a promising pizza joint (4).Įxternal links on Yelp open in separate tabs, so when Nala clicks a link to a restaurant’s website, it starts a new tab (5). In her traditional, tabbed browser, she sets off with a search (1) that takes her to a page of search results (2). To illustrate the kind of scenario we’re thinking about, we’ll introduce you to our friend Nala. Our hope is that our work might help advance the state of browsing closer to the ideal of a tool that enhances our cognitive process, rather than increasing our cognitive load. The goal of trails is to construct not only a window into web content but a narrative of user activity. With Browser.html, a Mozilla Research project aimed at building a browser user interface built in HTML for nightly builds of Servo, we are experimenting with evolving the standard tabbed browser towards a model based on trails. Since the early 2000’s, the desktop metaphor of tabbed browsing has dominated the way we navigate the web. By Patryk Adaś Lossless Web Navigation with Trails ![]() |
